Founder & Curator
Darrell Joe is a proud member of the Navajo Nation. He hails from the Ts’ah yisk’idnii dine’é (Sage Brush Hill clan) and is born to the Dibé Łizhiní (Black Sheep clan). His maternal grandfather’s clan is Naasht’ézhí (Dark Streak People, Zuni), and his paternal grandfather’s clan is Tábąąhí (Water Edge People). Born in Gallup, NM, and raised in the nearby Navajo community of Iyanbito, Navajo Nation, Darrell was nurtured by his mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. These strong women instilled in him the values of Navajo tradition and the cultural significance of turquoise.
After high school, Darrell moved to San Francisco, CA, where he dedicated himself to serving the Bay Area Native American community. His journey also took him to various parts of the country, including Orlando, FL; Coeur d’Alene, ID; Albuquerque, NM; and Roswell, NM. He currently resides in Long Beach, CA.
Darrell’s hobbies include indulging in delicious Navajo foods and exploring diverse cuisines from around the world. He enjoys traveling and immersing himself in different cultures. Recently, Darrell has embarked on a journey into jewelry making, with a focus on silversmithing and creating necklaces. A self-taught artisan, he draws inspiration from his research and other experts in the field. Influenced by his relatives who were artists and jewelry makers, Darrell has always admired Navajo and Southwestern artisans for their beautiful portrayal of Navajo culture. Now, he passionately pursues his interest in jewelry making, honoring his heritage through his craft.
